What we build
Custom themes, made for the long haul
From single-plugin child themes to full custom block themes, we build what the project actually needs, nothing forced and nothing bloated.
Custom block themes
Full theme.json control, block patterns, and block bindings. Modern WordPress, built the right way.
Classic PHP themes
For projects that need the flexibility and control of a traditional PHP theme without compromise.
Hybrid themes
Our own Improvise framework. The best of block and classic themes, in production on 25+ sites.
Child themes
Customize an existing theme safely. Updates keep working, your custom code stays isolated.
Custom blocks
Bespoke Gutenberg blocks for your team’s specific workflow. Native editor experience.
Block patterns
Reusable, editable pieces of design. Marketing changes the copy; the design stays consistent.
ACF-integrated design
Custom fields wired into your theme so the client edits content, not code. Design tokens included.
Performance tuning
Core Web Vitals, image and query optimization, caching strategy. Fast by default, not by accident.
Accessibility (WCAG AA)
Real compliance, tested with real tools. Not a badge on the footer, an outcome your users actually experience.
Our own framework
Meet Improvise, the theme we built for our clients
Improvise is a hybrid WordPress theme framework we’ve been building since 2015 and refining every year since. It’s what we use to deliver custom‑feeling sites without custom‑everything prices. This site runs on it. So does yours, if it makes sense for your project.
- Fast to build on so brand changes take minutes, not weeks. ACF‑populated design tokens do the work.
- Easy to maintain because it’s one hybrid framework, not custom‑everything for every project.
- Block-native with full Gutenberg support, theme.json, block patterns, and custom blocks.
- Battle-tested in production on 25+ client sites, updated in step with WordPress.

Good questions
Theme development FAQs
What’s the difference between a block theme, classic theme, and hybrid theme?
A classic theme is written in PHP and controls layout with template files. A block theme uses full-site editing and defines almost everything in theme.json plus block patterns. A hybrid theme, like our Improvise framework, uses classic template files where they help and block‑based structures where they help. Most business sites benefit from a hybrid approach: the flexibility of blocks with the developer control of PHP where it matters.
What is Improvise and why do you use it?
Improvise is our own WordPress theme framework, built and refined since 2015. It uses ACF to populate theme.json design tokens, so brand and layout changes happen in the WordPress admin instead of a code deploy. We use it because it lets us deliver custom‑feeling themes at practical prices: you get the flexibility of custom without paying to reinvent every basic. This site runs on it.
How much does a custom WordPress theme cost?
Improvise-based builds start at $2,500. Custom themes built from scratch start at $7,500. Child themes and customization of existing themes start at $1,500. Every project gets a fixed quote before any code is written. See our website design services for what’s included in a full build.
Can I edit my theme myself after it’s built?
Yes, and we plan for it. Improvise‑based themes expose design tokens (colors, typography, spacing) in the WordPress admin so brand tweaks don’t need a developer. Content changes happen in the editor. Structural changes we handle. Every project includes training so your team knows how to run their own site.
Will my theme still work with future WordPress versions?
That’s the point of building it the right way. We test against the current version at launch and design themes to survive WordPress’s core update cadence. Every hosting client also gets ongoing compatibility updates. Ask about a one‑time theme audit for a site you already own.
